About The Good Fund
This fund is the brainchild of Emily from Raising Ziggy and Kimberli from MyCup NZ. We are working together with different brands to help menstruating people all over Aotearoa have access to reusable period products.
Over the course of a lifetime of periods, a person can spend an average of $8400 on over 12,000 on disposable menstrual products. If they are not able to afford these products, they must ask for help, over and over, every single month. This can be soul destroying for those who live on the poverty line. These products are not only unsustainable on a community level, they are also polluting our environment. Disposable Period products can take 500-800 years to break down in landfill when exposed to the right conditions, however modern day landfills are fundamentally anaerobic meaning little air and no water gets in, so nothing breaks down.
The biggest question is: “Why don’t more people use reusable products like menstrual cups, cloth pads and period underwear?”
One of the biggest barriers to accessing reusable menstrual products is cost. The initial setup cost is a barrier for many people, and depending on which product you prefer to use, can mean that access is just not possible.
That’s where “The Good Fund” comes in. It is here to help those who cannot access these products. Its mahi is to help people access reusable menstrual products for those struggling or unable to invest in the future of their period.
We are also looking for other brands to get in touch with us to be a part of this mahi, we are stronger together!
